  • A hidden gem!

I fell in love with this album the first time I ever heard. It is spiritually profound. I cannot imagine anyone not liking it. Her hit song on the album is actually my least favorite. So give this album a chance! I think you will really like the rest of the songs even more, if you liked that one. 🐢

I remember hearing this song in a grocery store back in 1995 and wanted to buy it instantly. Had no idea who the singer was. Since then I have bought all of Tracy's songs. Her music is truly one of a kind and so is her voice. One of the few singer who, I believe, can sing a phone book and make it their own. So much passion in that voice of hers. Melody is complex yet so soothing. Have heard this album about a million times and its still fresh and relevant. Brett Dennen of the newer lot, sort of reminds me of her. But we so need her back on the music scene.

My parents owned "Crossroads" before I was born so when my nanny gave us New Beginning when I was about 3 in 1997 I remember really enjoying it. It's much longer than Crossroads and definitely one of her stronger albums. Heaven's Here on Earth is amazing, with it's echoy use of guitars, percussion, and ulalian pipes. A definite must have. New Beginning---. I remember totally liking the "Start all over" line as a kid. Smoke and Ashes is a very dark rock ballad that would make an awesome single; it does go on for a little long but is really good. Cold Feet is a story song like Fast Car...it's told in a more direct approach so that practically all you do is listen to the lyrics. Obviously, coming from the woman who gave us "Fast Car", it doesn't have a happy ending. "At this point in my life" is a pleasent song, although less remarkable then some of the other stuff on here. The Promise--- this one is beautiful!! Rape of the World is a very sad piano ballad. It goes on really long (at 7 minutes i think its her longest song). Tell it like it is---she's back!! Tracy of her 1st 2 albums lives!! Seriously, this one is fast and energetic and has an awesome electric guitar solo!! Give me one reason---the hit everyone knows her for, and totally deserving of becoming one. Remember the Tin Man is very depressing and depending on your mood you might want to skip over this one. I'm Ready is a nice song to relax to. Save a Space for me ( unfortunately not on the list here) is a very nice hidden track, a reprise of what was one of the best tracks on the album (The Promise.) All over all, it's probably her most satisfying release. Definitely a comeback after Matters of the Heart, which wasn't her best, in my opinion. The songs are all very long---most are five, sometimes six, even seven minutes long, so the album is well over an hour. This is a blessing seeing as most of Tracy's releases are really short, as she usually has about two or three songs this long on her albums. The ones I would really get are Heavens here on earth, The promise, Rape of the world, Tell it like it is, Give me one reason, and I'm ready. Hope this review helped!
  • The Emotion

Ms Chapman is unafraid of dragging us through her stories with our emotions. At once lyrical and tuff. As one who straddles many fences , I trust her with my senses and understanding. The fact that this album is older but not dated only clarifies that she is not just a singer songwriter--but a genre all by her self. Genius story master comes easily to mind thank you CC.

This album is essential, in my opinion, to anyone who is going through, or has been through, a difficult situation. It's so beautiful and reflective. It's just fantastic. Listen to it straight through. Lie down, and soak it in.
