Long Time Rammstein Listener
This album starts strong with Deutschland, and in my opinion is the best song on the album. The video is excellent, which should come as no surprise; Rammstein’s videos never disappoint.
Radio isn’t bad, but just kind of meh. Second best song on the album is Weit Weg. After those, the album goes all over the place. It’s hard to follow. It’s as if they all suffered from severe manic depression when they wrote the album. Songs will start with a certain feel/vibe, then do a complete 180 and jumble everything up. It’s frustrating to listen to at times. The album lacks any continuity of sound. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes that’s okay, but in Rammstein’s case it’s off-putting. They’ve never done it before. Why start now?
It’s certainly not a throwback to anything before Mütter at all. It’s not as heavy as Sehnsuct or Herzelied. Not by any stretch. Song writing is inferior to Rosenrot and Mütter by a lot. Its not industrial either.
If you loved Reise Reise and Liebe Ist Für Alle Da, and never bothered listening to anything else by Rammstein, you will probably like this album. Maybe even love it. If you’ve been a fan of theirs since the 90s, like me, this album is the equivalent of the Expendables movies. They’re fun, and enjoyable. All your favorites are in it. But you realize that it’s still a bunch of Grandpas beating each other up, and they’re nothing like you remember them being.
